Alone

Though tightening, their grip was failing. As if being pulled in opposite directions, the two lovers were giving it their all to stay together. Then the final tug was pulled and the pain struck lovers were torn apart. Screaming, yelling, and crying a promise was made. ‘I won’t ever forget you! No matter how much you wish me to, I will never forget you , and what you have done for me!’ When their lover was out of site there was a silence before the grieving set in. It was as if being stabbed in the heart.

Sitting there she looked down at the body and tried shaking him awake in rage and pain. This was her lover and she killed him. Had to kill him, lest the curse drove him to madness. “…. Killed you…,” She whimpered helplessly,”…. Killed you…………Killed you…...”  The memory would not be erased, like the blood now soaked on her hands could not be washed. No amount of mental scrubbing could possibly hope to wash away such a painful memory.
The little bits she did to try and keep it down, biting her lower lip and digging her fingernails into her flesh until she bled, proved pointless. The agony coursing through her would not stay silent, would not be held down. Bending her head back she cried out letting the fount of her devastation flow free. She had held back for so long. The past that kept haunting her, released. Gripping her hair, she felt as though she should render her body useless just to make things right. Blood soaking into the knees of her pants she leaned over his dead body. Tears dripping mixing with the free flowing crimson. The hope dead in his lifeless eyes.
“ Why?!” She demanded, beating his cold chest, “ You promised me! You PROMISED me! …… You said you would help me… Help me heal! ……… Now I am alone! Alone with the memories of what I have done...  Alone with the sins I have committed…….. You had forgiven me, even if I could not… How can i possibly forget you?”She chocked on her tears, collapsing onto his body trying to gain what little comfort she could. “ Killed you….,” She whispered again and again, chest heaving in silent cries.

“You can’t possibly make me to do that to her. Erase her memories? She'll be crushed....” Dark figures conversing  of a time long before.
“With me gone, she will feel more alone than ever.. I know...…….. But....It’s better for her if she does not remember……. Doesn't remember anything of the one person she didn’t have to hide from…. The one person who knew who she was when she herself did not and still loved her for it.... She won't be able to move on from this otherwise....... You and i BOTH know this.... "
“She won’t do it…. She could never…,”
“Then you’ll have to do it for her….. And only you can make it strong enough so she will never remember my face… My name……. My voice………. My embrace…… None of it……”
“This isn't easy for you either……. Is it?”
“…… No… it isn't…………. But I have to die anyway.... To save her.... “

Gray eyes closing, all of her energy sapped out as she drifts into slumber. Mentor close by, he remembers that long ago conversation. It was supposed to be his hand that killed her love. His hand alone, so she didn't have to carry more weight on her delicate shoulders.  Yet she still took the brunt of such a task unto herself.  It pained him to see her like this, his pupil, his daughter, even if they weren't blood related.
Silently he picked her up and brought her to her bed. He disposed of the body quickly and efficiently so there was no trace of what happened and then set to work with her clothes and her mind.
Sighing in exhaustion and satisfied with his well performed tasks he whispered, “ When next you wake, my lady, you will not remember anything. It will be as if you had a terrible dream………”
Noting the last of her tears streak down her face it was as if she had heard him. He solemnly wiped the tears away and exited the room to let her finish her slumber undisturbed, readying himself for when she awoke.
